Liverpool must promptly part ways with the underperforming player who earns more than Diaz.

This bold decision could yield significant benefits for Liverpool in the upcoming season.

Liverpool’s captivating season is winding down, and despite the anticipation that had been building over several months of hard work, it seems unlikely to end in the triumphant glory envisioned by the fanbase as Jurgen Klopp approaches the final weeks of his tenure at Anfield.

While Liverpool celebrated winning the Carabao Cup with a resounding victory over Chelsea in February’s final, their recent dip in form indicates that further silverware is unlikely. Given the team’s one-dimensional performance in recent months, perhaps this is an opportune moment for change.

FSG’s CEO of Football Michael Edwards and Anfield’s new sporting director Richard Hughes swiftly addressed any concerns by appointing Arne Slot as Klopp’s successor. Slot brings many qualities that Liverpool fans can be excited about, and he aims to integrate his high-intensity style of play seamlessly into the squad, building upon Klopp’s work while molding the team to his vision.

However, there are numerous internal issues within the squad that need urgent attention. Successfully addressing these issues could set the tone for the summer months and the upcoming season.

Arne Slot’s primary challenges at Liverpool
There are understandable concerns among Liverpool supporters regarding the contract situations of captain Virgil van Dijk, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, and attacking star Mohamed Salah, all of whom are set to become free agents at the end of the 2024/25 season.

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Hughes will prioritize resolving these situations, although concrete negotiations have not yet commenced.

The contracts of veterans Thiago Alcantara, Adrian, and Joel Matip are set to expire this summer, but none are expected to extend their stay at Merseyside.

Once these pressing issues are addressed, Liverpool will inevitably focus on further areas for improvement. The situation surrounding Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s £85 million club-record signing, remains a persistent concern for the club.

Darwin Nunez’s performance this season in numbers
Nunez faced criticism throughout the 2022/23 season, his first with Liverpool, with pundit Frank McAvennie suggesting that “some clubs are too big for certain players” due to the 24-year-old’s poor form.

Despite ongoing issues with his shooting accuracy, Nunez’s tally of 18 goals and 13 assists from 51 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 season, including 33 starts, indicates improvement. Klopp even described him as “unstoppable” on his best days.
