Georgia defensive back Julian Humphrey plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Humphrey finished his sophomore season with 10 total tackles (nine solo) and four pass breakups. He was 21 tackles and five PBUs on his career. He started in 10 games for the Bulldogs this season.
Humphrey entered the transfer portal after the end of his redshirt freshman campaign, but ultimately decided to remain in Athens for another season. He has opted to re-open his recruitment with two seasons of collegiate eligibility left.
In 2022, he played as a reserve defensive back in three games, preserving his redshirt. That season, he was a piece of Georgia’s second national championship in as many seasons. He stepped into a larger role during the 2023 season, but missed time because of an injury.
Humphrey played high school football at Clear Lake (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 82 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 10 cornerback in the nation and No. 16 player in his home state of Texas.
His plan to enter the transfer portal comes shortly after the Bulldogs concluded its regular season with an eight overtime victory against rival Georgia Tech.
Georgia is set to take on Texas in the SEC Championship game on Saturday afternoon, but it appears that Humphrey wants to get ahead of the portal madness and get his name out there before things get hectic. It’s unlikely he’ll be suited up for that matchup, and the subsequent College Football Playoff berth.
He was recruited by the likes of Texas A&M, Alabama, Ohio State and more out of high school. Based on his recruiting rank, he’ll have his choice of suitors this offseason.
