REPORT: Derrick Jones Jr. Departure…

This summer, the Mavs must make some crucial decisions regarding their roster. Arturas Karnisovas appears committed to bringing the franchise back with the current nucleus, even if a rebuild might be the best course of action for its future. And should that be the case, he will have to bolster the roster significantly.

The Mavs must concentrate on keeping their current players in addition to dominating free agency and the trade market. New contracts are required for players like Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, and Nikola Vucevic. It was not their choice, though, in the instance of one of their players.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Derrick Jones Jr., a forward with the Bulls, will not be exercising his player option.

This past season, Jones Jr. made a career-high 64 appearances with the Bulls, averaging 14.0 minutes. With 50.0 percent shooting from the field and 33.8 percent from outside the three-point line, he averaged 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds.

The Bulls will desperately need forward support going into free agency, especially in light of the possibility that Jones Jr. won’t return. When it comes to depth off the bench at that position, the only players they have are Patrick Williams and Dalen Terry. They will require it desperately this summer.

The Bulls will have a lot of options to choose from when you consider their lack of three-point shooting and necessity at the point guard position.
