The University of Oklahoma’s softball team has announced significant changes to its home tournament schedule due to anticipated inclement weather. This news comes as a response to forecasts predicting less than ideal conditions for the originally planned dates from Thursday, February 20, to Sunday, February 23. The revised schedule shifts the tournament to run from Saturday, February 22, through Monday, February 24, aiming to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for players, fans, and staff alike.
The adjustment means that all games initially set for the weekend will now take place at both Marita Hynes Field and Love’s Field. The schedule will feature a mix of Oklahoma games and neutral-site contests, ensuring a packed lineup over the three days. On Saturday, February 22, the action kicks off with Wichita State taking on Bowling Green at noon at Marita Hynes Field, while simultaneously, Abilene Christian faces Oklahoma at Love’s Field. Later that day, Tulsa will battle Abilene Christian at 2:30 p.m. at Marita Hynes Field, followed by another Oklahoma game against Bowling Green at Love’s Field at the same time.
Moving into Sunday, February 23, the day starts with Bowling Green versus Tulsa at 11 a.m. at Marita Hynes Field, and Wichita State will take on Oklahoma at Love’s Field at the same time. This will be followed by Tulsa versus Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. at Love’s Field and Abilene Christian against Wichita State at Marita Hynes Field at the same time, ensuring fans have plenty of softball action to watch.
The tournament concludes on Monday, February 24, with two games at Love’s Field. At 11 a.m., Abilene Christian will play Wichita State, and the tournament will close with Abilene Christian versus Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m.
For those planning to attend, ticket information has been adjusted to accommodate the new schedule. Tickets for the original Saturday and Sunday games will be valid for the rescheduled games on those days. However, those who purchased tickets specifically for the OU-Abilene Christian game planned for Friday, February 21, will find their tickets valid for the new game time on Monday, February 24. Fans unable to attend due to the schedule change are advised to contact their point of purchase for refunds or alternative solutions. Specifically, holders of single-game standing-room-only tickets can exchange them for another game or request a refund by reaching out to the Oklahoma Athletics Ticket Office.
This shift in scheduling not only reflects the proactive approach of the Oklahoma softball program in dealing with weather challenges but also showcases their commitment to ensuring that the competition goes on in a manner that is safe and accessible for all involved. With the tournament now spread over three days instead of four, fans and teams can look forward to an action-packed weekend of softball, even if under slightly altered circumstances. The anticipation for this event remains high, as it promises to deliver exciting matchups in a beloved sport within the Sooner community.
