South Bend, IN – Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has secured the commitment of elite 5-star defensive end, Jack Sullivan, over rival Michigan. Sullivan’s decision sends shockwaves through the college football world, as he was widely considered one of the top defensive prospects in the 2025 class.
Sullivan made his decision public during a ceremony at his high school, surrounded by family, friends, and coaches. The 6’5″ defensive end donned a Notre Dame hat and held up a Fighting Irish jersey, signaling his intention to join the program.
“I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be attending the University of Notre Dame,” Sullivan said, beaming with pride. “Coach Freeman and his staff have shown me a clear vision for my future, and I’m excited to be a part of the Notre Dame family.”
Sullivan cited Notre Dame’s rich football tradition, Coach Freeman’s track record of developing NFL talent, and the program’s commitment to academic excellence as key factors in his decision.
“Notre Dame is a place where I can come in and make a difference right away,” Sullivan said. “Coach Freeman has shown me how he can help me reach my goals, both on and off the field. I’m excited to be part of a program that values excellence and pushes its players to be their best.”
Sullivan’s commitment is a significant boost to Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class, which now ranks among the top in the nation. The Fighting Irish have also secured commitments from 4-star quarterback, Michael Rodriguez, and 4-star wide receiver, Chris Taylor.
“Jack is an incredible talent, and we’re thrilled to have him join our program,” Coach Freeman said. “He has the potential to be a game-changer, and we’re excited to help him reach his full potential.”
Sullivan’s decision is expected to have a significant impact on the Notre Dame program, both on and off the field. His commitment solidifies the Fighting Irish’s position as a top contender for the 2025-26 season and provides a boost to the program’s national profile.
“Jack’s commitment shows that Notre Dame is still a destination program for top talent,” said ESPN recruiting analyst, Tom Luginbill. “He’s a dominant pass-rusher who can make an immediate impact, and his decision will only help to attract more top prospects to South Bend.”
Michigan, which had been considered the frontrunner for Sullivan’s services, is left reeling from the news. The Wolverines had invested significant time and resources into recruiting Sullivan, and his decision to choose Notre Dame is a significant blow.
“We’re disappointed, but we’re not surprised,” said Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh. “We knew Notre Dame was a strong contender for Jack’s services. We wish him the best and will continue to focus on building our program.”
Sullivan’s decision adds fuel to the already intense rivalry between Notre Dame and Michigan. The two programs have a long history of competition, both on and off the field, and Sullivan’s choice is sure to be a topic of discussion for years to come.
“This is a huge win for Notre Dame,” said Notre Dame athletic director, Jack Swarbrick. “It shows that our program is still a destination for top talent, and we’re excited to see the impact Jack will make on the field.”
Sullivan will join the Fighting Irish for the 2025-26 season, where he’ll be expected to make an immediate impact. He’ll have the opportunity to compete for a starting spot and help lead Notre Dame to another successful campaign.
“I’m excited to get to work and help bring another championship to Notre Dame,” Sullivan said. “I know it won’t be easy, but I’m ready for the challenge.”
