A one-year conditional sentence and four years of probation were imposed on former Croatian international Bosko Balaban in 2021 due to unpaid maintenance debts owed to model Iva Radic, the 1995 Miss Croatia winner.
Balaban and Radic were wed for over ten years prior to their 2017 divorce. They have three children together: a son and two daughters. However, during the two-year period that he was granted to pay off his alimony debts, Balaban did not fulfill his end of the bargain.
The 45-year-old, who was an Aston Villa player from 2001 to 2003, will therefore serve a one-year sentence in January along with a four-year suspension, as per Belgian publication HLN.
According to the report, a Zagreb court sentenced him to prison with no chance of release; even if he paid the outstanding debt, he would still be imprisoned.
The model has also shown off her work alongside brands such as Paco Rabane, H&M Damiani, Chanel and Journal.
Balaban, meanwhile, has worked as agent since retiring in 2015, guiding the careers of a number of young Croatian stars.
He has notably represented ex-Leicester striker Andrej Kramaric and helped negotiate his £9m move from Croatian club Rijeka in 2015.
