The Oklahoma Sooners softball team continued their relentless march through the 2025 season, staying undefeated with a commanding 8-1 victory over Wichita State on Sunday at the Norman Classic. Played at the sparkling Love’s Field, the No. 2-ranked Sooners improved to 12-0, showcasing the depth and firepower that have made them a perennial powerhouse.
The game’s turning point came in the fourth inning when sophomore Isabela Emerling stepped to the plate. With two runners on, Emerling laced a double into the gap, driving in a pair of runs and blowing the game open. Her clutch hit sparked a five-run frame that left Wichita State reeling. Emerling finished 2-for-3, proving once again why she’s a rising star in Oklahoma’s loaded lineup.
On the mound, senior pitcher Sam Landry was her usual dominant self, scattering four hits over six innings while striking out seven. Her pinpoint control and devastating changeup kept the Shockers off balance, ensuring the Sooners’ lead was never in doubt. The bullpen sealed the deal, with freshman Gabbie Garcia tossing a scoreless seventh to close out the run-rule win.
Coach Patty Gasso praised her team’s focus after the game. “We’re playing with purpose,” she said. “Every at-bat, every pitch—it’s all clicking right now.” The Sooners’ relentless offense, which racked up 10 hits, and their stingy pitching have them looking like a juggernaut early in the season.
With the Norman Classic in the books, Oklahoma’s undefeated streak rolls on. Next up: a matchup against No. 5 Texas, where the Sooners will face their toughest test yet. For now, though, the celebration belongs to Emerling and a team that’s showing no signs of slowing down.
