The Miami Dolphins are trying to make a big deal with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, so they are adding veterans to their roster this summer on team-friendly contracts. This season, the Dolphins have lost a number of players to free agency, including defensive end Andrew Van Ginkel and Christian Wilkins.
The Dolphins have plenty of salary room to add players to one- or two-year friendly contracts. However, it appears like Tagovailoa is still waiting on the Dolphins to extend his lucrative deal. He’s waiting on his deal now that he’s seen what the Jaguars offered Trevor Lawrence. Two other quarterbacks, including Tagovailoa, are awaiting contract extensions. Jordan Love and Dak Prescott are also awaiting contract extensions.
This off-season, the Miami Dolphins signed a number of veteran players with the intention of competing for a Super Bowl. Linebacker Anthony Walker, tight end Jonnu Smith, safety Jordan Poyer, and wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. have all signed with Miami. Calais Campbell, a defensive lineman, will now be paid the minimum of $1.5 million for a single year.
Defensive Lineman Calais Campbell’s Contract with Miami Dolphins
Calais Campbell, 38, is hoping to win a Super Bowl ring in his final season in the NFL. In 2023, Campbell was a member of the Atlanta Falcons. He is now agreeing to a one-year contract with the Dolphins.
In 2008, Calais Campbell was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL Draft after playing collegiately for the Miami (FL) Hurricanes. Campbell has played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Arizona Cardinals.
Campbell played 700 snaps with the Falcons in the previous season. In addition to 10 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 17 QB hits, and a safety, he had 56 tackles. Since the Dolphins lost Wilkins to the Las Vegas Raiders, he will strengthen their front line.
One factor that made Campbell sign with the Dolphins is defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver. He’s a coach who builds relationships along with coaching players. Campbell also mentioned that “Weaver understands my mind and how I see the game.”
Miami Dolphins Signing Veterans Shows High Expectations This Year
With all of the seasoned players the Miami Dolphins signed this summer, coach Mike McDaniel has high hopes for this team’s success. In an effort to strengthen their defensive line, the Dolphins have added important defensive players.
For the first time since 2008, the Dolphins want to win the AFC East division and have a simpler playoff run.
Last season, the Dolphins were forced to play in below-freezing temperatures in a Wild Card game against the Kansas City Chiefs. If they had defeated the Bills at home in Week 18, they may have avoided that game entirely. With the seasoned players they added this summer, they want to change the course of events.
Experience in the postseason might be an advantage of signing veterans. The Dolphins want guys with experience. Players such as Campbell are able to put pressure on quarterbacks and offensive linemen on the other team.
