Remco Evenepoel Wins Prestigious Sportsman of the Year Award After Stellar Season

Brussels, Belgium – Remco Evenepoel has been named the 2024 Sportsman of the Year, capping off what many consider to be the most impressive season of his career. The 24-year-old Belgian cyclist accepted the prestigious award at a glamorous ceremony held at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels on Saturday night.

Evenepoel’s stellar season saw him claim multiple stage wins across Europe, including a historic victory in the Vuelta a España, where his dominant performance in the time trials and the mountains reaffirmed his status as one of the sport’s elite riders. He also made headlines with victories in key one-day races, including the Clásica San Sebastián and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, continuing his streak of dominating classics.

In his acceptance speech, Evenepoel expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and family for their unwavering support. “This year has been a dream come true for me,” he said. “It’s a huge honor to receive this award. None of it would have been possible without the incredible team behind me, both on and off the bike.”

The award marks Evenepoel’s first time receiving the prestigious honor, though many believe it won’t be his last. His ability to bounce back from his crash in the 2020 Giro d’Italia and emerge as one of the world’s best riders has earned him widespread admiration both within the cycling community and beyond.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo praised Evenepoel’s achievements, calling him “a true ambassador for Belgium and an inspiration for young athletes everywhere.”

Evenepoel is now focused on the 2025 seaso, where he has hinted at ambitions to compete for the Tour de France title, a race that has so far eluded him. Fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for the cycling prodigy, who continues to rewrite the sport’s history with every pedal stroke.

With this latest accolade, Evenepoel has firmly cemented his place as not just a dominant force in cycling but a national hero who transcends sport.
