The top target for UAB this season will search for a new home.
Amare Thomas announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Thursday, departing from the program after two seasons.
“This choice wasn’t made lightly, but I believe it is the best move for my future and aligns with the goals I have for myself and my family,” he wrote in a post.
The Pinson Valley High alum led the Blazers this season in receiving yards (670) and touchdowns (eight), tying Kam Shanks for the team lead in total receptions with 62.
He was named an all-American Athletic Conference honorable mention at wide receiver for his sophomore season with the Blazers.
Last season, he set the UAB freshman record for receptions in a season (53), totaling 437 yards and three touchdowns.
He helped lead Pinson Valley to a Class 6A state title in 2020.
