Controversy Erupts As 3-Star Safety has decommits from Mizzou’s 2025 recruiting class…

Three-star security Dyllon Williams announced on his X account on Thursday night that he has withdrawn his commitment from the Missouri football team’s Class of 2025. Since June 11, he had verbally committed himself.

Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and hailing from Demopolis, Alabama, Williams is ranked No. 61 among safety prospects in the 2025 recruitment cycle by 247Sports. In his home state, he is ranked No. 32 among players.

He is the second member of MU coach Eli Drinkwitz’s upcoming class to decommit after the Tigers had a successful summer recruiting campaign. The first was Jayvan Boggs, a four-star wide receiver who transferred to UCF, which is near his birthplace of Cocoa, Florida. Williams was the second athlete to withdraw his verbal pledge on Thursday.

Williams’ departure didn’t have a huge impact on the Tigers’ Class of 2025 rankings. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Mizzou is now ranked 17th in the nation, down one spot from the previous day. With nine four-star prospects and seven three-star promises still in place, that is ranked eighth in the SEC.

Eighteen players, including four-star safety Charles Bass of East St. Louis, have verbally committed to Missouri’s upcoming recruiting class.

Mizzou is set to lose three players from its main rotation of safeties at the end of this season, as starter Joseph Charleston and key backups Tre’Vez Johnson and Sidney Williams Sr. are set to exhaust their eligibility.

Even with those three set to leave, Mizzou has a solid core of experienced players able to return.

Daylan Carnell, MU’s “Star” hybrid linebacker/safety spot player, is anticipated to make a comeback. This season, sophomores Marvin Burks Jr. and Phillip Roche have the potential to return, as does Trajen Greco, who became one of MU’s first rookies to burn a redshirt after establishing a position on special teams.

Although there are currently two freshman from Mizzou who can fill the position, Austyn Dendy is projected to play running back going forward after he demonstrated his ability to do so during fall camp. Jackson Hancock, a three-star rookie, is listed as a safety and is anticipated to return next season.

Byron Baldwin, a four-star defensive back out of Baltimore, has received an offer from the Tigers. According to numerous sources, he recently decommitted from Indiana and is a top target for Colorado and Mizzou. In his class, Baldwin is ranked as the 19th best safety.
