NC State Going With Freshman as Starting QB at No. 21 Clemson After McCall’s injury

North Carolina State University’s football team has announced that freshman quarterback CJ Bailey will take the reins as starting quarterback for this weekend’s matchup against No. 21 Clemson Tigers. Bailey’s promotion comes after senior quarterback Grayson McCall suffered an undisclosed injury in the Wolfpack’s recent game against Louisiana Tech.

McCall, a transfer from Coastal Carolina, had been leading the team with impressive performances before the injury. His status is currently day-to-day, according to head coach Dave Doeren. With McCall sidelined, Bailey is set to make his collegiate starting debut in one of the most challenging environments in college football – Death Valley, Clemson’s home stadium.

CJ Bailey, a highly touted recruit from Charlotte, North Carolina, has impressed coaches and teammates with his poise, arm strength, and athleticism. Despite being a true freshman, Bailey has demonstrated a keen understanding of the Wolfpack’s offense, showcasing his potential in limited playing time.

“CJ has been preparing for this moment since he arrived on campus,” said Coach Doeren. “We’re confident in his abilities and believe he’ll give us the best chance to succeed against Clemson.”

Bailey faces a daunting task in his first start, as Clemson’s defense has been stingy this season. The Tigers boast a top-20 defense nationally, allowing just 17.5 points per game. Clemson’s recent dominance over NC State, including a 59-35 victory in their last meeting, adds to the challenge.

“Clemson’s defense is one of the best in the country,” Bailey acknowledged. “But I’m excited for the opportunity. I trust my teammates and coaches to prepare me for the task.”

“CJ’s got the ‘it’ factor,” Coach Doeren said. “He’s got the arm talent, the legs, and the intangibles. We’re not asking him to do too much; just manage the game and make plays when necessary.”

As Bailey prepares for the biggest game of his young career, Wolfpack fans are eager to see if the freshman phenom can lead his team to an upset victory over the Tigers.

Will Bailey rise to the occasion and lead the Wolfpack to a statement win? Tune in this weekend to find out.
