East Lansing, MI – Michigan State University’s athletic department announced yesterday that former Spartan wide receiver Plaxico Burress will return to his alma mater as a program ambassador. Burress is widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers in Michigan State history.
Burress, a 6-foot-5-inch receiver from Virginia, played for the Spartans from 1998 to 1999. During his time in East Lansing, he hauled in 131 receptions for 2,655 yards and 20 touchdowns. His impressive collegiate career earned him All-American honors and cemented his status as a fan favorite.
The New York Giants selected Burress in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons in the league, including stints with the Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Burress won Super Bowl XLII with the Giants, catching the game-winning touchdown pass in the final minutes.
As a program ambassador, Burress will serve as a representative of Michigan State football, engaging with alumni, boosters, and fans. He will also participate in community outreach initiatives, support recruiting efforts, and provide mentorship to current players.
