Tennessee Athletics announced Thursday that Mike Keith, a renowned broadcaster and University of Tennessee alumnus, will be the next “Voice of the Vols.”
Keith will succeed the legendary Bob Kesling, who retired after a 26-year tenure as the lead radio announcer for Tennessee football and men’s basketball.
Keith, a Knoxville native, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He spent the last 27 seasons as the voice of the Tennessee Titans, becoming synonymous with their on-field successes. His iconic calls, including the legendary “Music City Miracle” in the 2000 playoffs, have solidified his place in Tennessee sports history.
“Bringing Mike and his family back to Rocky Top is a dream come true,” said Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White in the official press release. “He is a true icon in the broadcasting industry, and his passion for Tennessee is undeniable.”
Keith’s journey with the Vols began early in his career. He worked with the legendary John Ward on the Vol Radio Network from 1987 to 1998, assisting with football broadcasts and even calling Tennessee baseball games, including their 1995 College World Series run.
This homecoming represents a full-circle moment for Keith. “To have the opportunity to return to my alma mater and serve as the voice of the Vols is an incredible honor,” said Keith. “I’m excited to connect with the passionate Vol Nation and bring the excitement of Tennessee football and basketball to our fans.”
Keith will make his debut as the Voice of the Vols on August 30th when the Tennessee football team opens their 2025 season against Syracuse.
His return is expected to generate significant excitement among Vol fans, who are eager to hear his familiar voice calling the action from Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena.
