Colorado Buffaloes football community, legendary quarterback Kordell Stewart has been named the team’s new offensive coordinator. Stewart, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Buffaloes history, returns to his alma mater after a storied playing career and successful coaching stints at various levels.
The announcement was made by Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, who welcomed Stewart back to Boulder with open arms. “Kordell is a Buffaloes legend, and we’re thrilled to have him join our staff,” Sanders said. “His expertise, passion, and familiarity with our program will undoubtedly elevate our offense to new heights.”
Stewart, known affectionately as “Slash” for his versatility as a quarterback, running back, and wide receiver, played for Colorado from 1991 to 1994. During his time as a Buffaloe, he threw for 6,481 yards, rushed for 1,895 yards, and accounted for 60 total touchdowns. His impressive collegiate career earned him numerous accolades, including being named a two-time All-American, Big Eight Conference Player of the Year, and finishing second in the 1994 Heisman Trophy voting.
After a successful 11-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Ravens, Stewart transitioned into coaching. He began as a quarterbacks coach at his alma mater, Manual High School in Denver, before moving on to collegiate coaching stints at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Northern Colorado.
Stewart’s coaching philosophy emphasizes speed, agility, and unpredictability – qualities that defined his playing style. His expertise in developing dual-threat quarterbacks and creating explosive plays will undoubtedly benefit the Buffaloes’ offense.
