2026 four-star wide receiver Mazeo Bennett Jr. has announced his decision to flip his commitment from the South Carolina Gamecocks to the Tennessee Volunteers, choosing the Vols over other powerhouse programs such as Georgia and Ohio State.
Bennett, who hails from Greenville, South Carolina, was initially committed to the hometown Gamecocks, citing his connection to the coaching staff and the program’s promising trajectory.
However, after a series of visits and extensive discussions with his family, Bennett decided that Tennessee offered the best combination of development, competition, and opportunity to showcase his skills on a national stage.
“The decision to flip my commitment wasn’t easy,” Bennett stated. “South Carolina has a great program, and I’ll always appreciate what they’ve done for me. But after much thought, I realized Tennessee felt like home. The coaching staff’s vision for me and the team’s explosive offense are the perfect fit for my goals as a player.”
Bennett is regarded as one of the top wide receivers in his class, known for his exceptional speed, precise route running, and ability to make plays in crucial moments.
His addition to Tennessee’s 2026 recruiting class bolsters an already impressive group, reflecting the Volunteers’ resurgence under head coach Josh Heupel.
The decision is a significant blow to South Carolina, as Bennett was one of their most prized recruits. For Tennessee, it signals their growing appeal to elite prospects and solidifies their position as a rising powerhouse in the SEC.
