DONE DEAL: Georgia Bulldogs Shocks Florida, Secures Commitment WithTop Nation’s WR J. Michael Sturdivant over….See more

Georgia football and Kirby Smart are continuing their trend of being very aggressive in the transfer portal as they look for new wide receivers to add to the program. And while each recruitment has reasons to be excited, the latest wide receiver linked to Georgia may be the most exciting.

Matt Zenitz with 247Sports shared that UCLA transfer wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant is expected to visit Georgia later this week. On paper this seems like a very normal recruitment to follow, but that couldn’t be further from the truth because according to Zenitz, it is currently a battle between Florida and Georgia for Sturdivant’s commitment.

UCLA wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant

Sturdivant is coming off an okay season this year where he recorded 22 receptions for 315 yards and two touchdowns in seven games played. These really aren’t the stats that you would hope to see from a transfer Georgia is targeting, but there are a lot of other reasons to be excited.

Back in 2022, Sturdivant had a much better season at Cal when he recorded an impressive 65 receptions for 755 yards and seven touchdowns. Even his season in 2023 was much better than this past year, so it is a little unfortunate to see that his productions is decreasing. But the potential to be a great player is clearly there, it’s just a matter of his next team tapping into it and Sturdivant staying healthy.

According to the post by Zenitz above, this recruitment is currently between Georgia and Florida. Sturdivant has already visited the Gators, so that could be a sign that they are his top choice since he went there first. But at the same time, if he really loved Florida he would have already committed to them, so him giving Georgia a chance is a great sign.

The Bulldogs are after a lot of receivers in the portal, so losing any one recruitment would not be that big of a deal. But for the sake of not losing to Florida, this would be a fun recruitment to win.
