Austin, TX – In a move that solidifies his position as one of the highest-paid coaches in college football, Steve Sarkisian has signed a contract extension with the Texas Longhorns. The new deal, which runs through the 2028 season, is worth a staggering $92 million over six years.
Sarkisian, who took over as head coach of the Longhorns in January 2021, has led the team to significant improvement in his first two seasons. The Longhorns finished the 2022 season with a 9-4 record, including a 6-3 mark in Big 12 play.
“Steve Sarkisian has been a game-changer for our program,” said Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte. “His leadership, expertise, and passion for the game have inspired our players and revitalized our fan base. We’re thrilled to have him leading our program for years to come.”
Sarkisian’s contract extension is a significant investment by the university, but it’s one that Del Conte believes is well worth it.
“Coach Sarkisian has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in college football,” Del Conte said. “We’re committed to providing him with the resources he needs to succeed, and this contract extension is a reflection of that commitment.”
Sarkisian’s new deal includes a significant raise, with his annual salary increasing from $5.2 million to $15.3 million. The contract also includes a number of incentives, including bonuses for winning the Big 12 championship, making the College Football Playoff, and winning the national championship.
