KNOXVILLE, TN – Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Bru McCoyhas announced his decision to forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the 2025 NFL Draft. The news sent shockwaves throughout the college football world, as McCoy was expected to be a key player for the Vols in the 2025 season.
McCoy, a redshirt senior, has been a standout player for the Vols, hauling in 134 receptions for 1,919 yards and 14 touchdowns in his three-year career. His impressive performance earned him All-SEC honors and made him a fan favorite in Knoxville.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played at Tennessee, and I’m excited to take the next step in my football career,” McCoy said in a statement. “I appreciate the support of my coaches, teammates, and the entire Vol Nation.”
The loss of McCoy is a significant blow to the Vols’ offense, which was expected to rely heavily on his production in the 2025 season.
Tennessee’s receiving corps will now need to find a way to replace McCoy’s production, which could be a challenge.
“Bru is an exceptional player, and we’re going to miss him,” said Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel.
“However, we have a talented group of receivers, and we’re confident that they’ll step up and fill the void left by Bru’s departure.”
The Vols will likely look to players like Squirrel White, Chris Brazzell II, and Dont’e Thornton Jr. to fill the void left by McCoy’s departure.
While these players have shown promise, it’s unclear whether they’ll be able to replicate McCoy’s production.
McCoy’s decision to enter the NFL Draft is not surprising, given his impressive performance on the field.
He’s expected to be a top prospect in the 2025 draft, and many scouts believe he has the potential to be a first-round pick.
