ESPN Report: Jalen Milroe Made a Startling Statement About 5-Star Alabama Football Signee Keelon Russell Which Resulted to…See more

Jalen Milroe has at least one more game for Alabama football. After he plays in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan, he’ll have an NFL Draft decision, and is projected as an early pick should enter.

That means he wouldn’t overlap at Alabama with five-star signee Keelon Russell. Even if that’s the case, Milroe still had positive things to say about the youngster, a fellow Texan.

“I enjoy being around him,” Milroe said of Russell “I’ve been able to meet him a couple times here at the facility and at the stadium. Cool cat. Every single time I get to talk to him I like to pour into him, because that’s the biggest thing, just being able to talk to a guy that’s been in the process before. That’s something I try to do for him is give him my knowledge, since I’ve been here and pour into him.”

Russell was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year after signing with the Crimson Tide. He flipped to Alabama after previously committing to SMU.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Russell was the No. 2 quarterback in the 2025 class.

“He’s a special cat,” Milroe said. “There’s a reason why he’s the No. 1 quarterback in the state of Texas, in the country. He’s a big-time recruit because of who is as a person.”

The redshirt junior also acknowledged their shared home state.

“He’s a Texas kid, I’m a Texas kid,” Milroe said. “So to have another Texas guy in the building is going to be awesome. I know he’s going to be coached absolutely at his best by coach (Nick) Sheridan, coach (Kalen) DeBoer. So he’s in good hands here.”

Alabama is set to play Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl at 11 a.m. CT on Dec. 31 in Tampa to close out the season. The game will be aired on ESPN.
