Controversy Erupts: Two Georgia Bulldogs Officials Has Just Been Fired After Georgia-Texas Game Incident…

It didn’t take long for the SEC officiating crew to draw the ire of the college football world during Saturday’s contest between the No. 2 Texas Longhorns and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.

The first meeting between the two teams on Oct. 19 had a controversial moment when officials reversed a defensive pass interference call on Texas and allowed an interception to result.

The reversed call came during a delay after Longhorns fans threw objects onto the field in protest of the penalty. Texas would score a touchdown two plays after the reversal.

Georgia would go on to win the game 30-15. A roughing the passer call on Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. in the first quarter of Saturday’s SEC Championship Game caught the attention of many fans and the ABC broadcast team.

Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck was penalized on a second down play for intentional rounding.

Replay appeared to show Hill was going for the tackle and didn’t make an illegal or late hit on Beck. Because of Beck’s penalty, the two calls offset, and the teams replayed the down. Georgia would punt two plays later.

Fans on social media complained about the call, with many not understanding what Hill was supposed to do in the situation. “Weak NFL caliber roughing the passer call negates intentional grounding from Georgia,” wrote a fan.

“There’s been a lot of bad ones, but that might be the worst roughing the passer call in the history of ball,” posted another.
