LACKSBURG — Virginia Tech freshman linebacker Gabe Williams will “be out for a while” and will undergo surgery after suffering a lower-body injury in the fourth quarter of last weekend’s game against Clemson, Hokies coach Brent Pry said Wednesday.
Williams’ left leg was placed in an air cast and he was taken out of Lane Stadium in an ambulance.
Williams posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday afternoon to update his status and reveal he was discharged from the hospital Saturday night.
He added that his dad suffered a stroke and brain aneurysm in the stands after the injury. Williams said his dad is currently in stable condition in a medically induced coma at a hospital in Roanoke.
Williams’ biography on the Virginia Tech football website lists a father, Chance Williams, and a stepfather, Duane Wade.
“We believe God will continue to work miracles & appreciate your thoughts, prayers & privacy as we go through this as a family,” Williams wrote.
