In a shocking move, three of college football’s most storied programs – Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State – have announced their departure from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to form a new, independent league.
Dubbed College Football Elite (CFE), the new league promises to revolutionize the sport, prioritizing competitiveness, revenue, and player development. The CFE will operate outside NCAA governance, allowing its member schools to self-regulate and capitalize on their collective brand power. We’re thrilled to embark on this new chapter, said Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne.
The CFE will enable us to better serve our student-athletes, enhance the fan experience, and solidify our positions as leaders in college football. Clemson is committed to excellence, and the CFE aligns with our vision, added Clemson Athletic Director Dan Radakovich. We’re eager to collaborate with our new partners and shape the future of college football.
Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith emphasized, This move allows us to innovate, increase revenue streams, and provide our student-athletes with unparalleled opportunities. The NCAA is disappointed but not surprised by this development, said NCAA President Mark Emmert. We’ll continue to prioritize the well-being and education of our student-athletes, while adapting to the evolving landscape of college athletics.
The CFE’s formation sends shockwaves throughout the college football world, raising questions about: increased compensation and benefits spark a wave of player transfers?
This is a tremendous opportunity for our program, said Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban. We’re excited to compete at the highest level
Ohio State DE Zach Harrison added, “This is a game-changer for college football. Buckle up
As the CFE takes shape, fans, coaches, and players will watch closely as this bold experiment unfolds.
