The Arkansas Razorbacks are finally enjoying a much-needed bye week after playing six straight weeks. They are attempting to stay as healthy as possible because their next bye is a full month away, and they are also using this time to prepare for No. 13 LSU in ten days. On Wednesday, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman gave starting quarterback Taylen Green and other key players the most recent information regarding their injuries. Testing has revealed that the first diagnosis was a bone bruise rather than an MCL sprain.
Pittman said, “We don’t think it’s MCL, now,” on Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. More akin to a contusion. quite painful on him. I hope he returns by LSU. Right now, it’ll kind of be day-to-day, but our diagnosis indicated that no ligament damage had occurred.”
Guard Patrick Kutas practiced on Tuesday, which is another injury update. Since early August, on the second day of fall camp, Kutas has been sidelined due to a back issue. He was replaced in the starting lineup by sophomore E’Marion Harris following much testing. In addition, the Hogs would welcome back junior cornerback Jaylon Braxton, who hasn’t played since Week 3 due to a bone bruise.
“We sincerely hope they can return,” Pittman remarked. “Kutas trained yesterday and will work out once more today. By Thursday, Braxton will be prepared. Thus, perhaps, we can win back a few of those guys.”
In addition, the tight end room was somewhat battered before the Tennessee game. Andreas Paaske has been absent for a number of weeks. Luke Hasz has been competing despite a back ailment. Additionally, Tyrus Washington has an unidentified injury. Hasz didn’t start Saturday’s game, but he played some. The participation report lists Washington as well, although it’s possible that a mistake mistook him for special teams player Jayden Johnson, who also wears No. 8.
“That was probably our biggest concern going into the Tennessee game,” Pittman stated. Josh Street, who plays tackle for us, was our tight end. But Luke makes me feel so fantastic. I anticipate that the room there will be back in full force by Monday because we still need to receive the results of a few tests for Paaske, and Ty Washington should be ready by then.”
The backfield for the Hogs is a little wounded. Ja’Quinden Jackson, the starting running back, is anticipated to maintain a high workload this week, so expect him to take it easy. Following an injury and suspension, Rashod Dubinion saw the most play in a long time on Saturday. Rodney Hill possesses an MCL sprain.
“We anticipate returning by Monday, Rodney. At most by Monday, but probably not this week,” Pittman remarked. “R-Dub caught a pass out of the backfield and had a number of excellent runs. He’s been working out nicely. He was wounded. Due to his injuries, his time was limited.”
The injury bug can affect even kickers. Kyle Ramsey, the starting kicker, seems to have re-injured his groin during a failed 44-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter. At fall camp, he also sustained a groin ailment. It looks to be a chronic injury, and a return is not anticipated anytime soon. With 12:08 remaining in the fourth quarter, Matthew Shipley, who was filling in for Ramsey against the Vols, made a crucial 23-yard try.
“Ramsey has a significant injury, and so he’s going to be out for a while, and so those kicking duties will go to Shipley,” Pittman stated. “I was pleased to see Shipley enter. I was proud of him for going out there and making the extra point even though it wasn’t a big field goal.”
As mentioned, Arkansas is getting ahead of schedule in preparation for LSU in addition to becoming healthy. This Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (CDT), the Tigers will play a crucial game against No. 9 Ole Miss in Baton Rouge. Following an hour of “cleaning up” mistakes from Monday’s Tennessee game, the players immediately began watching LSU film. They spent an additional hour studying films on Tuesday.
