Houston’s football team welcomes a new quarterback this season, Zeon Chriss, who brings a wealth of experience and skill from his previous two seasons at Louisiana. Chriss, known for his dual-threat capabilities, has already shown immense promise and resilience throughout his collegiate career as he makes an impact both on and off the field. Photo by Houston Athletics Chriss’s journey to collegiate football began with a stellar high school career at Madison Prep in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

As a junior, he threw for 2,005 yards and 25 touchdowns, leading his team to the Class 3A state championship. He added 897 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground, earning District 7-3A Offensive MVP, Advocate All-Metro Offensive MVP, and First Team All-State honors.

Chriss spent two seasons playing at Louisiana before moving to Houston, where he had a big effect. He played in 12 games during his tenure, completing 111 of 168 throws for 1,331 yards and 12 touchdowns—an outstanding 66% completion percentage.

Chriss showed himself to be a dangerous rushing menace as well. He gained 492 yards of total yardage, averaging 61.5 yards per game and 6.7 yards per run, in just the 2023 season.

He also scored six touchdowns on the ground. Among quarterbacks with at least 50 attempts, he ranked second in the FBS for his great rushing performance.

Zeon Chriss’s faith and athletic achievement are closely related. Growing up in a devout home, Chriss has always looked to his relationship with God for support and direction.
