Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes, talked about Cam Ward and Miami (FL) football’s upset victory over the California Golden Bears during his appearance on the NMD Canes podcast.
“I knew it was just a matter of time until [Cam Ward] really figured it out. But I knew Cam was gonna be able to come back and win that game. It’s just an FCS thing. No moment gets too big for us.”
At the FCS level in the Southland Conference, Incarnate Word was where Ward started his collegiate career. Similar to Ward, Sanders started his career in the FCS division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference at Jackson State.
In the last eighteen minutes of the game, the Hurricanes outscored Cal 29-3 to overcome a 25-point deficit. Ward completed with 437 throwing yards, one interception, and two touchdowns. In the fourth quarter, he added a touchdown run and another 15 yards on the ground. As of right now, Miami stands at 6-0, one of just two ACC schools without a loss (Pitt, 5-0).
A loss would kill Miami (FL) football’s hopes of making the playoffs.
The Hurricanes cannot afford to lose a game because they have no games against any ACC schools that are enjoying a strong season, such as Pitt, Clemson, or SMU. They were lucky that the Virginia Tech game was given to them by the ACC officials. Regretfully, Miami’s calendar is been cleared of all remaining games against rated opponents. Their two greatest chances to play a club that might be ranked eventually are against Syracuse (4-1) in the regular season finale and Duke (5-1).
Undeserved or not, the anticipation is undoubtedly growing. Cowboys All-Pro According to Micah Parsons, Ward might be selected as the first quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
On a recent episode of The Edge, Micah Parsons stated, “I think Cam Ward has a chance to be the first quarterback taken.” “It’s evident from his current actions that he is unconcerned with the interceptions. It seemed obvious to me that it was the next play. He really does have a dog’s mindset. He is capable of everything. He is perusing news reports. He is among the select ones.
“Although I have never laid eyes on Cam Ward, I would pick him as my team’s quarterback based on my observations of him on the football field. Defeated Virginia Tech early and returned. He now trails Cal by 21 and recovers. How much does that indicate about his team’s level of confidence in Cam? “We are aware of our guy.” What does that reveal about Cam now? How much he trusts his teammates and his process. When your quarterback is so focused in, that’s all that matters, bro.
After a bye this week, Miami (FL) football travels to Louisville to face the Cardinals on Saturday, October 19 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
