Standout guard Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers revealed his bond with standout player Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever after the rookie completed her maiden WNBA season.
Clark landed in Indiana this season and brought the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 with a solid campaign following a journey to the national championship game with Iowa.
Haliburton was questioned about the rising WNBA star, with whom he has become close since her arrival in Indianapolis, during the Pacers’ media day on Monday.
“It was really cool to see it up close—to see the explosion of women’s basketball, and a big part of that being the Fever and that being in my backyard,” Haliburton said.
‘Went to as many [games] as I could. I grew pretty close with [Clark’s boyfriend] Conor McCaffery being an intern with us last year. Then I’ve grown to be pretty close with Caitlin and him and me, her, him, and my girlfriend, Jade, we have a group chat that we talk to pretty often about everything.
Simply developing a friendship with her has been cool. I wish not to be… All they want is more from her, more to take from her, more answers to their questions. That’s not who I want to be.
‘We’re buddies, and I believe that that’s a wonderful aspect. We can discuss basketball if she feels like it. If not, that’s also perfectly acceptable to me. But I think that, in addition to Connor, our friendship has grown fairly fantastic.
“Watching her develop over the past year, as well as the Fever as a whole—Kelsey Mitchell gaining some playoff experience, Aaliyah Boston, and the entire group—has been really amazing.”
‘It’s really cool to follow the team. It’s unfortunate that they lost, but they’re a young group. They’ll be back for success and now [I’m] locked in and watching more WNBA.’
