In a major coup for the University of Miami’s football program, 5-star athlete Tyler Jackson has committed to the Hurricanes, spurning rival offers from Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia.
The highly touted prospect from Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School announced his decision on social media, citing Miami’s rich tradition, family ties, and the program’s resurgence under Head Coach Mario Cristobal.
Jackson’s commitment marks a significant milestone in Miami’s recruiting efforts, bolstering an already impressive 2025 class. The Hurricanes have secured verbal pledges from four 4-star prospects and now, the nation’s No. 2 athlete.
The 6’2″, 200-pound Jackson is a versatile threat, capable of dominating on both sides of the ball. He projects as a wide receiver or safety at the collegiate level, with exceptional speed, agility, and ball skills.
Coach Cristobal emphasized Jackson’s fit within Miami’s program. “Tyler embodies the Hurricane spirit – athletic, tough, and passionate. He’ll be an impact player from day one.”
Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia – Jackson’s other finalists – were left scrambling to reassess their recruiting strategies. The Seminoles, in particular, had been considered a strong contender.
Jackson’s commitment propels Miami into the top five of national recruiting rankings, alongside powerhouses like Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia.
South Florida’s storied high school football scene has long been a pipeline for Miami’s program. Jackson’s decision reinforces the Hurricanes’ commitment to securing local talent.
Miami fans erupted on social media, celebrating Jackson’s pledge. “This is HUGE!” tweeted @CanesFan4Life. “Welcome to The U, Tyler!”
ESPN’s Craig Haubert praised Jackson’s potential. “Tyler’s athleticism and playmaking ability make him an instant-impact player. Miami’s getting a difference-maker.”
Tyler’s father, Tyrone Jackson, played defensive back for Miami from 1995-1998. The family legacy factor played a significant role in his decision.
With Jackson on board, Miami’s focus shifts to securing additional top targets, solidifying its 2025 class, and building momentum toward a championship season.
Under Cristobal’s guidance, Miami is poised to reclaim its status as a national powerhouse. Jackson’s commitment serves as a testament to the program’s growing momentum.
The Hurricanes’ recruiting success has significant implications for the ACC, as Miami aims to challenge Clemson’s conference dominance.
“I’m staying home, and I’m proud to be a Miami Hurricane,” Jackson said. “The U is where my heart is, and I’m ready to make my mark.”
